Used a lens brush on a camera sensor. Damaged now?

1 year 2 months ago #748823 by Craig Stone
I have a buddy who just picked up his first camera 2 months ago and has been asking me a lot of questions.  I try to answer the best I can.  Well I just got a Sunday morning interesting call from him.  So it turns out that he took the brush that he normally uses for cleaning his lenses and cleaned the inside of the camera.  THEN went online to learn how to clean a sensor and found people talking about how easy it is to screw up your sensor and to use only specialized cleaning gear.

I told him he should have watched videos first and really left the cleaning to a professional.  But what is done is done.  He was asking me if he screwed up the sensor.  I haven't seen the camera, but told him to take some photos, if the photos look OK, then the camera is OK.

That being said, I told him I would ask around for another opinion.  Am I correct that if the photos look good, no damage was done to his sensor?

Have him take some out-of-focus photos of a clear blue sky, and pixel-peep the resulting shots.

Any damage he might have caused will be visible there.

Done and done.  Actually I just left him a voicemail with the advice you gave.  Thank you for the help on this!

There is glass over the sensor and it's not as fragile as people make it out to be. He may have added dust to the surface but that's about it.
