Scratched acrylic print be repaired?

1 year 2 months ago #748922 by Glen Mosley
I've not seen this yet, however a client who bought an acrylic print from me last year just left a message earlier today stating their print was scratched and if this could be repaired.  I've not called her back as I was trying to find the answer to this.  Can this be repaired?  From her message she stated the scratch is about 1.5" and as thick as a pencils lead.

Thank you

Never had this problem, honestly I would reach out to the printer company and ask them.  Good luck!

I would send photos to a print shop that makes acrylics and see what they have to say.  Take photos with ruler next to scratch for sense of scale.

Thank you for chiming in.  On Thursday last week I did leave a message for my print shop.  Waiting on answer.   :)

I forgot to share this with you.  After originally reading your post I was curious about this myself and did some reading and from what I can gather... if the scratch is minor, you may be able to polish it out using a specialized acrylic polish or compound. These products can be found at most home improvement or automotive stores. To use a polish, first clean the surface of the acrylic print with a microfiber cloth and mild soap and water. Apply the polish to the scratched area and use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to buff it in a circular motion. Continue buffing until the scratch is no longer visible. Which this might not be the best option in this case because it's a deeper scratch. That said, if the scratch is deep or the acrylic print is cracked, it may not be possible to repair it yourself. In this case, you may need to consider replacing the print or having it professionally repaired.

thanks Uplander.  From the photo I received from the client, it's hard to tell how deep this is.  Honestly its a crappy photo, I'm hoping the print shop can shed some light on this as well.

Really appreciate your help with this!

If that was a metal print, would it be able to be repaired?
