How many FPS is enough for shooting wildlife?

I'm going to be making some gear upgrades soon and one of my goals this year is to spend time gaining experience with wildlife.  What would you say is a fair amount of FPS that would be good for this style of shooting?

The more inept one is, the more one needs high frames per second.

The majority of wildlife shots are like still lives. Action is not common.
Yet, ask five full time wildlife photographers and you will get 5 different answers.
In the 1980’s I did horse race finishes for my newspaper as well, where the 2 fps was too slow.
My camera had 5 fps and that was adequate.
I can not see why one would need more than 7fps.
It will just fill up the memory card and make it even more difficult to choose.

Some people use more, others use less. Honestly it's not such a big deal. If you're after action shots it's handy to have more but more important is that the photos you're taking are of good quality and that will only come with time. Practice practice practice.

If this is a question of 'should I invest in a camera with a high FPS' then I would say rather invest in a great lens.

G'day all

This is a good "Q" but the "A" is a bit like the length of string

My Panasonic kit offers me 2 or 4 or 8 or 30-FPS in electronic mode and my usual everyday mode is 4fps

Using 4-FPS means sufficient time between each frame that I can see a difference, however the times I choose 30-FPS (not often I admit) is for hi-action where I want to review each frame for a tiny-tiny change seeking the small differences and I am seeking "the perfect" shot

Hope this helps
