Legal question about having your photo on stock photo site

10 months 1 day ago #752759 by Barbara Fite
A good friend of mine about 9 years ago tried to get some income coming in from uploading her photos to all the stock photo sites she could.  She did alright, but never was able to 'quit her day job' and that kind of fizzled out for her.  She still makes a little bit of money but not much.   She has noticed one of her photos was uploaded to an adult website and she is trying to get it removed.  Apparently the admin to the site stated they legally licensed the photo.  If that is the case, isn't there a clause or proper use when people license photos?

What can she do here?

Probably depends on Terms & Conditions on those stock sites. Since users would've agreed to the terms I don't know if photographers could do anything about who licensed usage or for what purpose.

It might be best to remove photos from those sites. I think the payments used to be decent many years ago but started dropping to next to nothing a long time ago (after an overabundance of photos were being posted to sell as stock).

Unless pricing has improved... I haven't seen anything about it in a long time. Or at least your friend needs to go back and read Terms and decide if it's worth it to leave her photos on any of those sites.
