needing inspiration

I'm finding it hard to find inspiration for landscape photography in the area at the moment. I don't have the money at the moment to fly out to incredible places to take some pictures. Have any of you felt like this before? How have you gotten over it?

Yes I have felt like this before. I try to look for inspirations in different and unusual places.

While landscapes are one of my favorites, I too get that sinking "now what?" feeling in my local world. One thing that has worked for me was to grab a macro or close up lens and explore the little things that normal lens do not pick up. Things like individual leaves especially in fall. mushrooms, flowers, bees etc can get you shooting. Also doing ND filter shooting on streams and breakers in the surf can be interesting. Another is an IR filter. It will absolutely give you a different perspective. (I had my 20D converted to IR only, it's fun)

It can be useful to change gears, so to speak, and do different kinds of landscape. For instance, deliberately include signs of man's influence in the composition... power lines, railroads, a plowed field, etc... if you've been avoiding that or not, reverse course.

If you've been doing sweeping vistas, switch to smaller patches of Earth... or vice versa.

Change to using different gear than usual; sometimes the adjustments you need to make in using different gear can result in doing photography in another way.

Think about the "message"... is it nature conservation, or aesthetic appreciation, or? Maybe there's a theme that appeals to you, a project like misty waterfalls, canyon cliffs, dawn/sunset on snowy peaks, old barns...
