Setting the white balance in Nikon D300

12 years 11 months ago #42462 by Rick D300
So I've been reading up on custom white balance settings and not 100% sure on something. So when you are setting up the white balance yourself, are you suppose to fill the camera's entire frame with the white or 18% gray? Or can it just be partial coverage? Which is better to use the white back ground or 18% gray card? I don't have a 18% gray card yet, but plan on getting one.

Who came up with 18% to begin with? Why not just 100% gray and be done with it? 18% just seems to complex.

From my understanding you do want to fill the frame, and if you don't have something that is gray, then use the brightest white you can find.

So with the camera in auto white balance there is no need for further adjustments to white balance?
