Rent lenses?

13 years 5 months ago #4648 by CanonKid
I'm thinking about a new lens and would like to try it out first. I have found a few places that will rent lenses. All them require a full replacement deposit which is OK I guess. I would like to just play around with each lens for like a weekend and see if I like. Do you think this is to extreme for trying to find new lenses?

Canon 7D, 15-85mm, 18-55mm, 70-200mm, 100mm Macro, Sigma 120-300mm, Speedlite 430EX II

That is a good idea, how much do they charge to rent a lens?

Not extreme at all, I'd rent a couple lenses myself if I had that option and the prices were reasonable. Consider yourself lucky you're in an area that has rental places available.

Not extreme at all ... It's a good idea to rent a lens and see if it is really what you want.

I'm not sure where you live but in the US there are several camera / lens rental companies. Two excellent firms are Borrow Lens and Lens Rentals. I have rented from both, without a full replacement deposit, but then I always get the insurance option.

I never thought about this. Very good idea. What do they charge for a lens and if you end up buying the lens do they credit you the cost of the rental?

Lensprotogo.com is a pretty good place, they are higher in cost them some, but worth the price, the quality of their lenses is really good.

So what do they charge for their rentals? How much deposit do they require?

It depends on the lens and how long you renting from them.

You can go to:
lensrentals.com
borrowlenses.com

Each has a listing for the lens or camera rental costs by length of time, etc. Typically you cannot buy the lens form these sources if you like it ... Rental only, then buy one form the usual sources. On occassion they will sell some of the used lenses and camera bodies.

I was just wondering about if they would sell their inventory, but then again what condition would those lenses be in? I'll stick with the new :P

look into one of the camera clubs....they'll more than likely have someone there that would show you the lens and possibly try it out.
