Charging batteries in field with solar charger

13 years 5 months ago #5162 by Monti Leehsu
When we go camping (which is often) there is no electricity. Leaving my ability to shoot contingent upon how long my batteries last. I've been told there is a solar DSLR camera battery charger. I've done some searches and come up with everything but a specific DSLR camera battery charger. Did I misunderstand that there was a solar powered DSLR camera charger?

I have never heard of a charger that is specific for a DSLR battery, but there are plenty of solar chargers out there. One option that I would consider is to get a vertical grip with the extra battery. Most of those (at least for Nikon, I am not sure about Cannon) have the ability to use disposable batteries instead of the camera battery. That may be more then you are willing to carry, but the combo of having 2 camera batteries and a set of AA batteries should last at least a few thousand shots.

You can also get a inverter that works off the 12V source from your car. With this plugged in, then you can charger your batteries there.

I agree, with a fast charger this should work.

Car charger is your best bet if you will have your car close by.

Well, if they camp at all like I do, there is no car in sight... That is why the AA batteries are always a good back up.

Thanks for all the help, the camp site is about 500 to 700 yards from where we keep the cars parked. That might be a good option, also I'm going to look into the battery packs.
