Protecting camera equipment in bad weather?

3 of my good friends and are will be heading up to Alaska this fall for camping, fishing and photography trip. "3 Musketeers" who have never done this before. I've been told there is good change for bad weather. Living in Hawaii as you can imagine makes me new to shooting in snow and rain. I was wondering how you protect your camera gear when shooting. I also was told to get some insurance for all my camera equipment if its over $1000 total worth (which it is).

I was told to use zip lock bags on all the equipment that will fit?

Insurance is always good. There are some products made for bad weather protection, but no matter what you take along, add to that some plastic trash bags and rubber bands.....
Have fun and be safe in Alaska.....;)

Why so serious?

B&H has these hoodies that you can place over your camera to keep it dry during wet weather.
