How do you store your lenses?

12 years 7 months ago #5270 by Simon Says
Cleaning out some space I came across a box with all the lens covers that came with most of my lenses. Personally I just store my lenses in my Lowepro bag standing up with no cover. I was going to throw out but decided if I end up selling any of my lenses, the buyer might want the covers.

I put the end caps on all of my lenses as soon as I remove them from the camera. In fact, I paint a little red dot on the covers so that I can instantly line them up to prevent dust/dirt from getting on the lens. Then I store them on a shelf. If I'm going out shooting, I put the lenses in my bag with the lens caps in place.

i'm going to assume that you mean lens covers, like the small pleather or felt bags that some manufacturers / lens come in? If so then I do not use mine either. If you mean the lens caps then I am not so inclined. I am not brave enough to store a lens without both the front and end lens caps on the lens. Like Nod .... I put the caps on as soon as I take the lens off the camera body.

I have a closet that I keep my camera gear in ... the items that are not with me when I go out to shoot. These lenses are stored in a divided felt lined box so they cannot fall over, etc. Yeah I know it is a bit extreme, but I like to take care of my stuff.

The lenses that I use all the time are stored in my camera bag ... ready to go. The 500mm and 400mm lens stay in the hard cases that they were shipped in.

I do the same as bhowdy, except that I don't have divided felt lined box & it's in a cabinet & not a closet.

I store mine in a storage chest, in the cloths bags the came with. I also have a few Nikon lenses in leather felt lined bags that my Dad purchased 30 years ago. Yea, I also line the bottom with bubble wrap. When in my Camera bag both covers stay on until I change lenses, then recap and put the replaced lens in a cloth bag.

I generally take my MF lenses out of camera bag after using them and store in a wood cabinet. My Canon lenses, I store them in their felt bags in a deep drawer in my desk except the white monsters that do stay in their travel bags. In all cases lens caps are always on and the humidity in that room where all the photo gear is at is kept very low.
