Would you spend $460 on this ball head?

I'm on the fence and seriously considering the Arca-Swiss Monoball P1 S Ballhead with Quick Release, they say this will support up to 66 pounds. Which I'm sure is a bit over kill for what I need. But it's a nice head, so I'm guessing this will be something that will last years for me. Just wanted to get some feed back on this company. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of this ball head? Would you drop $460 on it?

Here is the link to it on B&H : www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/469930-RE...l_P1_S_Ballhead.html

Post your thoughts and don't be shy, if you have any dirt to share, please share it. I would rather make a good investment rather than one I would regret.

Thanks

Dwain

I think you can find something comparable for a bit less...It doesn't come with a QR plate either. I do like the Arca Swiss QR system (it fits the RRS "L" brackets). Although it handles up to 66 lbs, the legs you get have to be rated for that weight as well if you were to have such a heavy camera/lens combo attached to it. I think it's a bit of overkill except for maybe someone doing specialized work....

I appreciate your honesty Scott, would you mind if I ask what you suggest?

Personally, I like the Bogen/Manfrotto line of tripods & monopods...As with other manufactures, they have different ones for different uses. Get one that will support the heaviest camera/lens combo you expect to have

Again thanks Scott, I'm going to look further into that line.

I personally wouldn't. Weight bearing at the expense of versatility. It only has a 35 degree max tilt. What will you do when you want a verticle shot?

I agree, you might want to look at the GP ballhead.

If you have big lenses yes, the Arca-swiss is a darn good ball. However, when looking for a ballhead see what weight the ball is rated for and figure if you will be needing that much now and in the future. A smaller ball with a smaller price may do you just as well. I ended up with a RRS ball (BH-55) capable of handing a Canon 500 mm f/4 on a Sidekick but if it wasn't for that lens I sure would not gone that high on price. RRS also has some good, and cheaper, ballheads, but you do need to shop around and get what fits your current and future gear the best.

I myself will be buying in spring some gitzo legs with a merkins head.
