What white balance setting do you use most of the time?

I only shoot RAW, so it doesn't really matter that much. If it's a critical situation, I'll use Custom WB, but usually I'll start out with a pre-set.

Some people swear that AWB is OK outdoors. I'm not one of them, & AWB really sucks under artificial light. I ran a test indoors & have never used it since. Notice that the very last exposure in the 2nd image of tests was of a gray card, & it's way off.

But regarding WB generally, reality isn't everything. Would we try to make a sunset neutral? The "Correct" WB may not be the "Right" WB for a image.

I'm with photosguy on this one. Even trying to a custom white balance is spotty at best and Canons are well known for poor AWB especially in artificial light. It's actually one of the reasons I came to use RAW. In a number of instances I have ended up using a warmer setting than perfectly white light b/c it can make people look a little healthier.

Ok, well general I find white balance not that important if you RAW also unless you are using flash. Since I manly shoot wedding and use flash even Raw can not solve many my problems. Example I have a dark church with tungsten Lights (very yellow). So I pop on my flash use AWB Take the photo of the happy couple at atler. But then I notice the problem, the couple looks great, has good whites but the background whites are very yellow. Adjusting raw does not help because one changes the other. Solution turn it in to Black n white photo. Just kidding. So I alway adjust WB to my background light temp where I can not light. I turn my white balance to Tungsten Temps on camera. Then place a CTO gel (Color Temp Gel) Over my flash. So now the light out of my flash is the same temp as the backgound just higher power. And photo looks great.

Example on non-gelled flash photo

You can see the whites in the background are not White. But whites on family member look ok, because camera balance to hotshoe flash.

Here I gelled my flash.
You can see the alter behind still looks white even tho my flash is not hiting it very much.

I pretty much will move the white balance around depending on the existing lighting.
