Need some lens advice on a Nikon D70 digital camera

Hello everyone

I just bought my first DSLR camera from someone on Ebay. It's a Nikon D70. I bought the camera body alone and it doesn't have any lenses. Next month I'm heading to New York City for the first time and I would like to have at least one lens to photograph the city while I'm there. What would be a good lens to get for photographing the city buildings and such?

Thanks so much for your help.

Jerry

The "kit" lens was an 18-70 & you can find them used on eBay & in camera stores like KEH. A lesser cost lens is the "18-55mm kit lens. Optically it's pretty decent, build quality suffers a bit though. I have one & it can be had pretty inexpensively. With the D70 (I have a D70s) crop sensor, the 18mm looks like a 28mm lens would have on a full frame camera so it's wide enough to get some building shots as long as you are not right on top of them...

Very good and thank you Scott. I was just looking at the 10-20 Sigma. Would you suggest going with a non Nikon lens?

18-200mm f/3.5 would make a good "every day" lens to have

There is nothing wrong with going with 3rd party lenses. That said, just like OEM lines, 3rd party makers like Sigma, Tokina, Tamron, etc... have consumer & pro quality lines. Google the lenses that you are thinking of getting & see what the majority of reviews of people have to say about the particular lens...As Tennis Guy said, an 18-200mm Nikkor is a decent "everyday" lens to keep on your camera...
