Buying a D300 and have some questions on speeding up the FPS

I'm planning on buying a Nikon D300 here this weekend and was thinking about getting that larger battery grip to beef up the FPS to 8. Now if I'm speeding up the FPS, what memory card do you recommend I get? Does it matter? Or will I need something that can process at a faster rate?

I don't think the memory card will make much difference with your FPS other than if the camera buffers and then loads all images on the memory card? I would suggest a San Disk Extreme III. Something with some good memory space also, like a 16GB+

Yes, every bit of speed counts. So get yourself a good and fast memory card.

Yup, get the fastest card you can find. Afterall, You'll be blazing at 8 fps at 12 megapixels each. It wouldn't be worth it should your camera stop every 5th frame to buffer, which is what would happen with a standard speed card. Delkin and Sandisk Extreme cards have a good rep for fast cards.

So how large are memory cards these days?

The fastest CF cards out currently can go up to 64 GB :woohoo:
Overkill for most I'd say, but it depends on your needs. Find out how many shots you get per GB on your current cards, do the math, and get what fits your needs and budget. Fastest cards currently are under the Delkin and Sandisk brands:

Sandisk extreme Pro
Delkin UDMA 6

both are around 90MB per second. That's super fast! Sandisk extreme IV is still pretty fast, and won't break the bank if you're on a budget.
My favorite place to get cards is www.bandhphoto.com , as they often have really great rebate offers. Worth looking into.
