Sony Shocker: a7 III Sales in Japan Beat Nikon & Canon COMBINED
Last week, BCN in Japan came out with its most recent data regarding mirrorless camera sales in Japan.
As their report shows, Sony is blowing the competition away. In fact, the Sony a7 III had better sales than the next four full frame mirrorless cameras combined.
Not only is the explosive growth of a7 III sales impressive, but equally impressive (in a not-so-good way) is a precipitous drop in Canon EOS RP sales. Additionally, the BCN report shows that Canon EOS R sales and Nikon Z6 sales are sluggish.
In looking at the chart above, you can see what I’m talking about.
Initially, the EOS RP was going great guns, but over the last month or so, its sales have plummeted. The low performers on the list - the EOS R, the Z6, and the a7 II have consistently been at the bottom of sales since mid-March.
Sony has a much longer track record with mirrorless cameras and a much wider market, so it’s not totally shocking that they possess the camera with the strongest recent sales.
However, what is a bit surprising is that the a7 III is doing so well, despite being a pretty pricey camera.
At any rate, Kudos to Sony. As excited as many photographers are about the new mirrorless cameras from Nikon and Canon, evidently the likes of the EOS RP and the Z6 haven’t made a dent in a7 III sales.
