I think that I will be selling a kidney on EBay to fund the Canon 200-400.

The lens incorporates an integral 1.4 teleconverter ... activated with the flip of a switch. The lens focuses fast (much faster than the 100-400), feels great in my hands, is a huge step up from the 100-400.
The list price is rumored to be in the $7,500.00 range. I have never used the Nikon 200-400, so I cannot offer any opinion. Friends that have the Nikon lens love it.
Original release was thought to be May or October ... based on recent events in Japan the new lenses (24-70, etc) may not be released this year.

Good to know. I gurantee, GURANTEE...the 200-400 for canon will be out in time for the olympics. (A lot of of gettys, reuters, sports illustrated..what have you, switched to nikon just to use the 200-400 last olympics)bhowdy wrote: The version II Canon 500mm and 600mm lenses are already out and available from the usual sources. (Adorama, B&H, etc,) Not sure how long they will last, how many were manufactured, etc. But you can purchase a brand new 500mm I for $9,500.00 today!
I have been told that one (1) production run of the 200-400 was made. My source tells me that it was a small run for professional pre-orders. No idea when that might be released.
