A Day in the World

Here's something to prepare for:

The largest photographic project in history. Every country in the world. A single day.

http://aday.org/

The largest single-day photographic documentation project in history takes place in 2012. Photographers in every country in the world will contribute to a website for people to explore, compare and share images of the lives we live: One human race, one planet.

A Day in the World focuses on the joys and challenges of people in the context of their families and communities. The project spotlights communication and cooperation — producing a photographic treasure trove that will be freely available to all.
This comprehensive depiction of our world will also provide researchers with a documentary cross-section of human activity, serving as a basis for studies in fields as diverse as sociology, environmental sciences, economics, social medicine and anthropology. The archive will become an historical tool.

We need your images!

The photographic documentation will take place in 2012. Crucially, all photographs will be taken on the same day — a massive snapshot of the breadth of contemporary human activity.

It cannot be done without you. We need pictures taken by people all over the world, in all kinds of situations. This is an unprecedented global survey of humankind. Never before will so many people have interacted simultaneously to document their lives and those of their neighbors. Never before will such a powerful message have been sent between so many people — and from the present to future generations.

This is what we talked about at the Well. It mimics what Steichen did when he curated The Family of Man exhibit back in the late '50s. It's what man CAN do now. It's great.
