Used Sony NEX 5 with 18-55mm lens

I believe I found a good deal on a used NEX 5 with 18-55mm lens. I'm meeting the Craigslist seller tomorrow to possibly make the purchase. This camera is supposed to be "Like New" and have original box, sales receipt, etc. How do these cameras hold their value? Would you say $350 for this camera with this lens is a good deal considering it has less than 50 photos taken with it? It was bought for a gift and hasn't been used because he apparently has another camera.

Check for photographic prices at keh, cameta, adorama and ebay.Take into consideration that you will not be getting a warranty.

My wife has a NEX 5, she loves the camera. She had an issue with the shutter button sticking when she first got it. After sending it in, she got a new one back and has had zero problems with it. I have used myself and it's a smaller camera with big camera features. I think she wants their NEX 7 for Christmas which of course is something like 24MP. If you can pick up for $350, I think that is a pretty good deal, I would still try to offer less. Just as the last person mentioned, you of course won't have any warranty. Might as well reduce your risk.

Good luck with that.

Mirrorless cameras in general do not hold their value like a DSLR (with possible exception for Fuji X-series). If this is the old 5(plain), not a later 5N, I would offer $275 and see where that goes. But $350 would be reasonable for the 5N.

:agree: good price, I agree. Make an offer around $275 and see where it goes from there

I would hold off, newer models might be coming for the holiday season. Which means the value of that camera will be less.
