No Lens Attached ?

6 years 11 months ago #526330 by dglarson
A few weeks ago I purchased a Rokinon 14mm lens for my Sony A-mount cameras.
I purchased model FE14M-S to use on my Sony A300 and Sony A850 cameras.
The Sony A300 is an APS-C camera and the A850 is a full-frame camera.
A few days ago I was trying out my new 14mm Rokinon lens.
When I put the lens on my Sony A850 and attempt to take a picture, I get an error message on the A850 screen that says
 "No lens attached. Shutter is locked"
The 14mm lens is most certainly attached and attached properly.
I checked the Rokinon website and lens model FE14M-S is definitely designated as a Full-frame camera lens.
When I move the 14mm lens to my Sony A300, an APS-C frame camera, I don't get this error message and I am able to take pictures with it.
All the other A-mount lenses I own are either Sony or Sigma and they all work on my Sony A850, i.e. I don't get this error message.
So why am I getting this message on my full-frame Sony A850 with FE14M-S attached?

Do you get any other error messages when attaching other lenses to the 850 ? Possibly the camera contacts are the issue ? Might pay to contact the manufacturer for an answer...

I get no error message of any kind when I attach any of my Sony or Sigma A-mount lenses to my Sony A850 camera.

Only when I attach the Rokinon FE14M-S to my Sony A850 do I get an error message. And the message only appears when I press the shutter to take a picture.

I still don't know why this message appears with my FE14M-S attached to my Sony A850 but after doing some research, I discovered that camera firmware version 2.0, (which is what I have on my A850), allows you to get past the message and actually take a picture. Go to
Menu --> Custom Menu 2 -->Release w/oLens

set this parameter to "Enable" and it solves the problem.
