Sony A7RIII SD card slot problem

5 years 1 week ago #640540 by indyallen
I got my a7RIII less than a year ago and one of the SD cards slots is malfunctioning. Slot number 1 does not lock the SD card into place. I tried all sorts of different SD cards and searched the web for a solution. One guy reported a small piece of the SD card broke off and jammed the slot but I can not see any missing piece of plastic. I took canned air to the slot anyway but nothing came out. The card still reads if I hold my thumb on the SD card but the card will immediately pop back out if I remove my thumb. I still have the second slot which is not as fast as slot 1 so I can still work. I am looking into the warranty from Sony.

Oh no, sorry to hear about this.  I've had no issues with mine.  You are under a year, have you contacted Sony about this?

I sent my camera in to Sony last Saturday, May 4th. Sony has an official repair place in Connecticut. When I talked with Sony they said it was under warranty and they emailed me a FedEx label. The FedEx was ground delivery so it did not reach Connecticut until Wednesday night May 8th. So far no word on the repair. Sony said it will take 7-10 days to repair most cameras. I could check online for progress on the repair but the status has not changed and it is May 13th. It is killing me that I do not have a camera during this time but I am just glad it is still under warranty.

It is May 21 and my camera is still in Connecticut for a warrantee repair. All that I know about the camera is that it was received from their website. It was supposed to take 7 - 10 days. Should I be worried? Has anyone else gotten their Sony cameras fixed in Connecticut?

I would find a way to bug them myself, yes.

I found out that Sony closed the work order ticket so I contacted them. I talked with a Sony Rep who told me to contact Precision Camera in Connecticut. Apparently, they were waiting for a proof of purchase. I had wrapped the printed email receipt around the camera when I shipped it. I asked them why they could not call me or email me of the problem. They did not have an answer.

I emailed the receipt to them and then I had to resend the email to Sony after another email. Then the ticket at Sony miraculously reopened and Precision Cameras status changed to in repair status. Precision Camera fixed the camera in a few days and it is now being shipped back to me. I am supposed to receive the camera today May 28 but we will see how that goes. So I had been without my Sony AR7III since May 4th. Very frustrating.
