I don't know why I have more focus issues with my D300s than I did my D60

My uncle used to get $25 for each roll in front of the grandstands (back in the '50s). More than if he won the race.

Glad the new card works. :)

More than a minute it seemed! I was running with a numb leg trying to get there and hand my camera off at the same time to anybody. He was fine, just bruised a bit and muscle aches. The crazy thing is his car was fine too, just scraped lol. He went back out later and practiced another car and almost flipped again while I was downloading these to the laptop, thank goodness I had my back turned that time and didn't see it coming lol.

Oh no! This is only his 2nd flip and the 1st was a barely lol. He could have continued racing but with the car "biking" like that it was not an option. He went down to GA before us with another family and quit practice early because they felt he was coming close to flipping until they had the parts from us to fix it. I had told him he wasn't allowed to flip with out me there, guess he listened for once... This was his birthday weekend, his favorite track, and his first time practicing without either of us there. He did hang tough though.

I tried lowering my ISO a bit this time because I seemed to have more noise then I should have when I needed to crop for a zoomed flip. But I still can't figure out my focus issue on the 489#. I was using my 18-200 because it is such a small track and honestly my back couldn't have handled my 70-200 this weekend.

Thanks, I had a few of my hubby's feet running in front of me with my finger still on the shutter lol. It is scary but addicting for all of us.

So I think I just figured out something that I have been trying to recreate for a while!:woohoo:
Maybe by lowering my ISO that help the panning and DOF that I could only get with manual focus at night before?! Then again please tell me if I am mixed up and wrong...

I'm viewing on a laptop and can't see the focus issue. Is it when you crop? That will amplify any camera movement. Using a monopod? Could help.
Love the sequence though. With 3 or 4 frames per sec cameras, it is amazing now much action takes place in a second.

When rounding a turn, tell him to watch the left front tire and get as close as he can to the curb, without touching it. That's what caused the car to flip.

It isn't focused on him in the #489 one, I don't know. I had tried the monopod earlier that day but it was restricting me so I gave it up. The rest in the race was in focus and I am usually pretty good about doing the half button since things happen so fast. My previous "noise" issues where when I was zoomed too far when a flip happened and the parent wanted it closer but I wasn't happy because it was grainey, therefor I thought it may have been the auto ISO being too high?
Here is one that they wanted only their kid in but I didn't like because once I cropped it it was grainey

He usually has a great line there but the tires coming off made it impossible this time lol. I think the term is "biking", which if the judges would have seen it happening he would have been black flagged. This was our first "biking" incident, the track really got tight as it warmed up and several others had issues too. But yes thanks it does help because he doesn't have a good line at all in these pictures. We are also working on getting him to lean out more to help but he prefers to sit straight up and that is not ideal in Quarter Midgets.
