High School Sports

5 years 7 months ago #599854 by Sunshyne5
I'm new here, hello! Question I have is: How does everyone keep track of the individual photo that is taken and what name goes with which photo? I take the high school sports (non-action) photos and create memory mates etc. I have a system now but some times it doesn't work. Just looking for suggestions on what works for you?

Thank you!

I, personally, keep the original file number that will be
added my archive specifics.

I rather name folders. 11 portraits will go in a team folder
containing the 11 folders with players number and name.

Batch renaming is a very practical strategy, here.

HTH!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I may be in the minority, but don't do any renaming other than Lightroom adding the capture date on import to the file name. So after import, my file name looks like this: 20180824-1DX_0366.CR2

For organization, I've done the same for years. I don't do anything in terms of naming there either - it's 100% chronological:

2018
 -01-2018
 -02-2018
 -03-2018
 -RAW
    --01-2018
    --02-2018
    --03-2018
etc

So I save my RAW files into the RAW folder by month, and when I export them as JPG I export to a folder named by month outside of the RAW folder.

Then I use Lightroom keywording to track what is in the pictures to be able to search (by subject, person name, etc).

I shoot a lot of sports, so I can have several keywords for a picture:

Central Sports (our HS is 'Central HS')
Varsity
Varsity Girls
JV
Basketball
Football
individual player name
etc

In the LR metadata section, I always put the final score in the "title field". For example: Central 24 Team x 17. I shoot the scoreboard at the end of the game to help myself remember in case I don't get to the pics for a while. When I export to JPG and then upload to Smugmug, it actually shows that info for anyone looking at game albums later.

I know it's not for everyone, but it has always worked for me.
