The first is darn cool in every way, very spectacular.
In #3, though, the perfect recovery of the shadows
is severely haloed… but can still be corrected.

Thank you! Your're right, the contrast filter I've been using caused this issue. I guess the next pictures do not have this imperfection:

These look better in this regard… which appeared to me
to be of brush stroke nature, possibly.

Yes it seems so, but I used the filter 'Dark contrasts' of 'Color Efex Pro4' and the edge around the car is one result - I'm not happy about this.
