That's right, you  don't get snow down there right?

Pinkie:
High up on our mountains every few years, gone in a day or two.
Reachable snow is two hours drive, about every other year for a few days.
Huge traffic jam if it happens to be over a weekend or during school holidays.

Didn’t it just snow in one of the deserts over there?

The only deserts close to me is the Namib and Kalahari. (1000-1500km)
I did not hear of any snow there.
The Namib might get a few mm of snow every 20 years.

I think he must be talking about the snow fall that took place last year in Sahara Desert

https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-africa-42627090/snow-falls-in-the-sahara-desert .

Which if that is the case, is far from where this guy is at.

Pinkie, my forefathers came to Africa the towards the end of the 17th century, from Germany and France, mostly.

From what I hear, South Africa has pretty decent beer.  A buddy of mine works in Yard House and was telling me this. Oh wait, now I'm double guessing myself.  Well I'm 70% sure S. Africa is the place he was telling me about.
