Ice for the first 48 hours then heat and anti inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen/Motrin. Have you done your rehab exercises with the wrist ? ( I was a nurse in a former life- now I just shoot people)

What are the doctors saying? Should it be still swollen and painful still? Perhaps you hit it again and damaged it further? I would jump on some strong meds from doctor. Hope you feel better ;)

It shouldnt be swollen, I would go see your doctor. For most of my pains Im an asprin kind of guy. But still you shouldnt be swollen like that, I never have been that far after my broken bones, of which I have had a fair number of. I would try as Rob said and see if the swelling goes down, if it doesnt see the doctor.

Aleve will help with the swelling, I get the gout and before I got a prescription medicine for it, I would take a couple of Aleve and it helped.

I'd call the doctor. We all might be very well-meaning, but unless we're a photographer AND a doctor or nurse, someone might give advice that could harm you further. If you can't call the doctor for whatever reason, go online to several free medical advice sites.

Update - I have had the hand x-rayed and apparently there are two broken bones in my hand as well, they were not spotted on the first x-rays, so thanks for all your suggestions and help, I am now on extra strong pain killers and I just have to rest the hand as much as I can, difficulkt as I am left handed and it is the left hand that is damaged, looks like photography is off the cards for a while, which will drive me insane. :(

Sorry to hear that they missed the bones in the hand on the initial X-ray. Try also to keep it elevated above the level of your heart as that will help reduce the swelling .And yes I am a Registered Nurse with 30 years experience behind me. I just do photography now rather than nursing. It's a long story...

Ice never use heat on a joint only makes it swell. Soak in ice water 5 min then 10 min out and repeat.
