New research: CANCER caused by camera sensors!!!

I was reading a news article today which makes me pretty scared.  Here's a quote:

In one large study by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the American Society of Oncology , researchers measured electro-static radiation from camera sensors directly from cameras ( 4 ). This study found that photographers whotook more than 10 photos a have an increased risk of acute glioblastoma . Especially photographers using cameras that had electro-static radiation greater than 5.45 curies (Ci) (meaning most modern DSLR cameras). Another study conducted by NCI researchers reported that photographers using mirrorless cameras based on distance measurements were not at greater risk of glioblastoma ( 5 ).

To estimate more accurately therisks of glioblastoma in photographers from electro-static radiation resulting from camera sensors, researchers pooled (combined) data from many studies. In one pooled study that combined nine well-conducted studies from several countries, including a study from the NCI, a twofold excess risk of glioblastoma was associated with exposure to electro-static radiation from camera sensors above 5.45 Ci ( 6 ). In another pooled study that combined 15studies, a similar increased risk was seen above 4.32 Ci ( 7 ).

The National Cancer Institute and the American Society of Oncology are considering requesting a blanket ban on all cameras until adequate shielding can be put in place.  This includes lead lining around the cameras containing structure and a lowering of camera megapixels based on the fact that a per pixel discharge has been found to contribute to the possibility of electo-static radiation.

I will be contacting Canon and Sony as soon as possible.  I hope there's not going to be a recall on cameras.

I read about this too. Apparently there's going to be a lot of trouble for camera makers. I hear Nikon are OK because they add more oil than usual in their cameras. Canon and Sony have to do a recall I think. I'm sure they'll fight it though. In the meantime I think keeping camera use at a minimum is a good idea.

I'm colour blind, but it doesn't keep me from exploring the wonderfully colourful world around us. :)

You clearly aren't wearing the right head gear when taking photos:

But seriously, this is terrible news. I'm going to go to my doctor tomorrow and get my brain checked.

It won't affect the majority of us. Us Nikon folks are ok, its some of the Canon camera bodies that are at risk, research says that the majority of 1Dx and 1Ds bodies are at the highest risk, and I don't think many of us have those bodies. :) Phewwwww

BUT in another note, With Red-Eye. In a photograph of a child's face, red-eye in one eye but not the other may actually be leukocoria, which may be caused by the cancer retinoblastoma.
