The snow is down to about 1500', the mountains are stunning right now. Majestic ... La Mirada is 194' above sea level, consequently no snow. This area is clay, highly expansive soil. When it is dry, it is rock hard like concrete and the tiller just bounces off the surface. Fortunately, we've received a ton of rain in the last few weeks cutting Gary's tilling time and roto-passes in half. Gary has been concentrating on cooking for a few years and all his friends are aware of his meals and invite themselves over ... often.

Ground coffee from the store works. You can even toss tea into a press. Drop in coffee, fill with hot water, stir and then slap the top on and brew for four minutes. Viola!
The problem with most store ground coffee, is that coffee companies tend to mix good beans with 'meh' beans. Grinding your own beans gives you greater quality control over the whole process and delivers the freshest beans, (over time beans start losing flavor after grinding). I use a hand grinder, because electric grinders can be pretty loud, especially early in the morn when I get up and Mary Lou is still sleeping. I like for Mary Lou to wake up to a fresh cup of hot coffee. A hand grinder is much quieter and leaves a smaller environmentally negative footprint.
You'll find with high quality, single variety beans, that there isn't any bitterness or aftertaste, which minimizes/eliminates the need for flavor changing additives, a la sugar and cream/milk.

Gary has a chicken in the Sous Vide. It has been in there about 24 hours, cooking away in citrus juices,(lime and lemon), rosemary and parsley. Later today he’ll put a reverse sear on the chicken.
Yesterday Gary whipped up some bread. The bread is stuffed with more rosemary, parsley, orange peel and some Serrano pepper for a bit of kick.
