Taking pics inside

I was asked to take pictures of a couple of houses inside. Living room, kitchen, bedrooms. I only have a sony cybershot. How can I take the pictures and make them look professional? I don't want the pictures to come out dark or have weird looking shadows.

I often have to take pictures inside for wedding photos. However I haven't used a P&S in years. My best advice is make sure there is enough light in the room. If the curtains are open, make sure your photo is more exposed then what the window is showing. You don't want the light coming in from the window to be washed out and be this blinding spot on the whole photo. So either closed the curtains or do not face the window.

Use flash. Be careful as to what is in front of you, so you do not leave any harsh shadows.

zoom out as far as you can, but watch out for your foreground. You don't want the door knob in the photo, when you are showing off the room.

I know this is a question for inside picture taking, but if you shoot outside of the homes. Shoot at an angle. Don't shoot the house dead on. Move to your right or left and include part of the side of the house.

I was in real estate for a time and photographed clients' homes. A few tips I discovered:
1) use a tripod
2) set the camera about belly button high if you are using a wide angle lens
3) eliminate distracting items in the scene---think kids pictures on the fridge, the sponge and soap dispenser, general clutter etc, wires & cables running along the floor.
Eddie mentions the window problem. That is an area where I chose to blow out the windows and show off the interior more as that was what potential buyers wanted to see. Just be judicious about how you frame the windows. If you are photoshop savvy you can always bracket several shots and combine them in photoshop. This shot is made from 2 images. I copy and pasted the windows from one into the other.
