Anything under 12" in stored length please.   Need something that will be 5' tall.

That's a tough order to fill. My Davis and Sanford folds to 12" but it's max height is 53". I would like more height but it works pretty well especially if you are composing with the LCD. I just tilt it up. Shades of using an old Brownie for framing. Keep in mind that this works well for m43 cameras and DSLR's with normal lenses. I wouldn't use a DSLR with a zoom on it. It would be too top heavy. It could be done however if you weighted it down before mounting the camera but I would still be nervous.

You can get the height with this one but it doesn't meet your minimum length requirement.

As Randy said, that's a tall order to fill. I use a 3 Legged Thing CF Eddie Evo II travel pod myself. Doesn't collaspe to under 12", but supports almost 24 lbs

+1 for the 3LT Eddie, not the smallest for sure, but light and sturdy.

The OP really needs to put a dolllar limit on what he is looking for.... Actually many people on forums ask for recommendations without specifing a budget limitation. It makes a difference.

The OP actually needs to consider a light tripod that will fit outside of the backpack....

Why so serious?
