TRIPOD FOR Canon MARK 3 5d ?

6 years 4 months ago #555045 by mrphotographer
so I own a mark 3 5d. so far I only use the 24-105mm kit lens that I purchased with it. I plan to get the 24-70 2.8 very soon.

What I'm looking for is a sturdy long lasting lightweight tripod with ball head that can allow me to take smooth images and video. I plan to use the camera to upload portraits and full body shot for blog/instagram, and i plan to shoot video for film and just talking in front of a camera.

Suggestions? It's very confusing looking at a bunch of different models and brands. thanks!

What sort of budget are you working with?  Personally I use the Sirui W2204 and highly recommend it.  I shoot a lot around water, so having this being water proof is helpful as well.

What he said, above. You can go to many sellers (e.g. B&H) and sort based on a number of criteria.

Start with budget. Then height. Then weight. That will narrow the field considerably. Then you can look at features.

And keep in mind that this may not be the only tripod you ever own. The question for you is, what do you need now?

And, of course, suggestions from your friendly photography social group, like this.

Manfrotto makes an inexpensive travel tripod. 3 Legged Thing also makes some inexpensive models. And if you have a physical camera store anywhere nearby, go pay them a visit and lay hands on product.

Don't underestimate Vanguard.  I bought my first one last year after reading an article about it and sure enough, these guys once a cheap brand I wouldn't consider, now make a really good cost effective tripod.

Now to be honest, I wasn't so impressed with the ball head as much as I was blown away with the tripod.  I'm a tough sale when it comes to ball heads, as I've been using a Really Right Stuff head for just about 4 years.
