Can center column on Sirui 2204X be removed with ball head mount still in tack?

I've narrowed my new tripod search down to the Sirui 2204X.  What I want to know is if the center column can be removed.  I don't need the height from that, and having that removed will reduce weight.  Can the ball head still mount on the top of that even with out the center column?

This is the one I'm talking about -

Gonna have to go with "no". That center column might save you 10 ounces, anyways. Really not where the weight is.

A buddy has this tripod.  I want to say you will get a short column that you can use that is only a few inches long.

You can, see image.  Use the small leg and ditch the rest.

The OP asked about dispensing with the center column completely, yet still be able to use a head.

The answer remains, "no, you can't". You can remove part of the column, but it's still required to mount a head. And the amount of weight saved is going to be almost negligible.

Additionally, that little hook on the bottom of the center column? That's for adding weight to stabilize the tripod. An important point for equipment of this type. Carry a plastic grocery sack with you, fill it with rocks and hang it from the hook. Or hand your camera bag/etc. That's a useful feature.

If the column is still there, that is.

The whole point of that sort of column flexibility is to invert the column; i.e. put it below the junction. Not to get rid of it completely.

I just ordered their small travel tripod 1205.  First time trying this company.  Hope to see a sturdy travel alternative to carry around my big tripod.
