Using a Hard Shell Camera Case For Traveling

2 years 4 months ago #609137 by Todd Phillips
Would you ever use a hard shell camera case to carry your camera gear as a checked bag?

Something like one of those Pelican cases?  If not Pelican, then who would you use?

The beauty with the 4 Pelis I use is that I "chain" 'm so I
can roll'm as one; my check soft bag is carried on them.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I use a Vanguard rollaboard case. I NEVER check my cameras, lenses, meters, flashes.Only a tripod will go into a checked bag..

Not a chance, they can still open your case because you can't lock it

Unless TSA is cool with you locking the case, which they won't be.  I wouldn't pack any camera gear to go under the plane.

With that said, these cases are VERY durable.

I carry almost everything in a Pelican 1510 onboard. And a backpack. I check my tripod in my luggage.

Never would put anything of value under the belly of the plane.  Regardless of the case. You can't lock it.

My 3LT came in a cloth carry bag. I just pop the whole thing into the suitcase.

My wife tells me I need a larger suitcase to accommodate all the equipment I take with me. It's true.

I'll do the same.  Tripod is about the only thing along with power cords that I'll put in my suit case.  Certainly no camera gear.
