Product photography backdrops

4 years 6 months ago #658650 by DakotaBlock
Hi,
This is my first post to the forum.
I am getting more into product photography, and I have trouble to find some useful resources/blog/website with some tips and DIY tricks on the web, especially for e-com shots.

We are working with a series of e-com images with a client, and I am looking for some tips concerning backdrops. I tried for the last couple of days vinyl, seamless paper, and more textured bg such as linen or muslin. But now, for some specific shots, I would like to find a proper seamless paper which is really smooth and doesn't have this grainy texture, what will you advise? I am looking to have a bit of choice for colours such as oyster, charcoal or light brown. Is there a specific art paper I might use or something more obvious I am not thinking of?

PVC or vinyl might be an option, I guess, but I want to avoid having a reflective background.

Will you have any tips and economic options concerning backgrounds? As the items I am shooting are quite small (shoes at the maximum), I am sure there are some obvious cheap options I am not thinking of :)

Thank you very much for your help!

Paper has grain. Vinyl has grain.

I would have suggested plexiglass, but you said no reflections.

Get a piece of wood and some flat paint, and apply with a sprayer. Make your own matte surface.
