Need help on camera backpack please

4 years 4 months ago #667145 by Sandra James
Hello.  I'm new to this site and not a photographer.  My husband is.  I know he needs a new camera backpack, and I want to get him one for Christmas.  He hikes a lot, into nature and landscapes and has 2 camera bodies and a bunch of lenses.  He's a Canon shooter if that makes any difference with camera bags.  Honestly I don't know.  I don't get photography, but that's his passion.

I'm not sure what camera bags cost, but what can I get for $350 max $400?  Can you give me links of what you recommend please?

Thank you bunches!

Sandra

Wandrd, National Geographic and Shimoda Designs all make very nice bags.  There's another brand that is slipping my mind.  I'll repost if I can find for you.

Sandra,

It's good to know you want to gift a canon camera bag to your husband.
You can search here for the awesome quality of the camera bag within an affordable cost

What you're going to find is that there are many, many designs and sizes for backpacks. Your budget allows for plenty of choice. Although I think that Shimoda and F-Stop may be out of range for you.

I am a fan of Think Tank (which is why I'm an affiliate). You can also look at Vanguard and Peak Design.

I'd stay away from cheap options on Amazon.

The hard part will be choosing a style, which is somewhat personal. If your husband has any equipment at this time, consider what it does, and what he likes/dislikes about it. Use that to inform your selection.

I'm also a Think Tank affiliate. That said, I opted for an F stop backpack and use Vanguard Messenger bags. Went to Montana again this Summer and the backpack was good there, but I need a roller bag for the airports as the backpack got awfully heavy ( I had about 40-50 lbs of gear in it and I'm 70). Hope he has other bags as different ventures require different bags. ( Now to get my wife to realize I don't have too many bags...LOL)

I foolishly thought, starting out, that one bag would be all I would ever need.

Oh, how wrong I was  :-D

We ALL were wrong on that assumption.  I have a growing collection of camera bags.  My wife reminds me of this at least 3 times a year when it comes time to organizing the garage.

One word: purse.

May or not be relevant, but there are some women....
