Benro or Jobu ? For Wildlife photography...

4 years 4 months ago #669438 by Lucien-WEKSTEEN
Hello, I'm a wildlife photographer and I want to buy a gimbal head at the best price, so I eliminate Wimberley and King....
I have seen three interestings devices, not very expensive, especially second hand purchase...
So there are :
The Benro GH2 : economic and very famous but...I have seen some not good reviews about it.
The Jobu Pro 1 : old ! but I found it at a very low price...
The Lensmaster RH2.

Three are good gimbal heads but according to my readings they are not equal...
So has somebody test two (or three !) of them and can give his opinion about this subject ?
What do you think about these gimbal heads, and which one will you take if they are at the same price ?

Thanks for answers !

This: Jobu Pro 1… it is the only one on you list that offers
zero damping like my two Black Widow Mark 2 and all
the other Jobu Design gimbals. Enjoy Lucien!

Thanks for your opinion, but I dont understand well what's "damping" ?
Can you explain me what is it and why it is important ?
Moreover do you have any idea about which one is the more "smooth" and fluid ?

Have a day.

I have the GH2, and it's not great. If you expect smooth, you won't get it there.

There are reasons those heads cost $500 or more: because they do their job well.

I can't comment on the others.

Ok garry, thanks, so I will not buy the Benro...
I'm very interested by the Jobu Pro 1...very nice conception but I don't understand what Nikon Shooter would say with " offers zero damping"
Can someone explain me what is "damping" ?

Thanks you !

Smoothness is offered even by the less expansive gimbal
from Jobu and all offer zero damping as well.

Here comes your question again: what's "damping" ?

That feature is the only thing that prevent me from going
with the Gitzo hydraulic gimbals, even with all knobs loose,
there is still a damping.

Damping is a linear application of movement resistance in
this case. My starting point is zero damping and I choose
the amount to be applied as the shooting progresses.

… ben voyons, "Lucien"

…ben voyons, "Lucien" pardi!

Mais de quoi tu parles? Shame… what shame?

I developed a theory that suggests French is the most beau-
tiful language in the world! And NOW, I got the proof:

No one has ever heard of a German or English kiss, but all have
heard of, and tried the French kiss… there is more but that alone
is proof enough for me! :P
