Gitzo GT2545T Series 2 Traveler Carbon Fiber Tripod

Ok, so I want something small and as light weight as I can find.  This tripod is a bit on the pricey side, but I might be persuaded if I get enough feedback on it.  

1. It has 4 different max height options.  I'm guessing all these heights have to do with the  center column getting fully extended.  So, any idea how stable this thing is when that center column is fully extended?  I've used center columns on far less priced tripods and usually when extended, things get wobbly.  

2. Simple question - what do you think of this tripod?  Worth it, or I'd be buying only the name?

I own four of the series 5 from Gitzo. Two of them have
3 legs segments and two have four. I came to the conclu-
sion that only that serie won't have that nasty resonance
vibration when fully extended nor does it suffer from late-
ral torsion — this being shared also with the series 4.

Two are mounted with gimbals (so no column) for wildlife
and two do have columns for on location work and are each
mounted with ball heads.

These beefy (43mm ∅) tripods are still light but not small as
this is not an operational requirement in my activities.

Travel tripods are even lighter and more compact but that
comes with a compromised stability. This goes for any brand.
Light is free… capturing it is not!

When you say "compromised stability" how so if you don't mind me asking?  Do you use any travel tripods, or if not, is it for this reason?  

Whats the smallest tripod you have from Gitzo?

You should seriously look at 3 Legged Thing, specifically the Albert. They've recently updated some of their designs, too, with improvements.

My $0.02.

Material have all some degree of elasticity / flexibility
— some more some less — and all have different coeffi-
cient factors when it comes to mechanical shock waves
transmission — read vibration. 

All properties — good or bad — of any tripod will be re-

No, and yes.

Series 5 are the only tripods I use, no travelling tripods as,
if one considers the gear bag I carry around, looking at sa-
ving 1 or 2 kg makes no sense weighing the stability cost.

ADDENDUM

I use these Gitzo because I am in Europe and I could get
them easily and at a fair price — one of them I even bought
used.

If I were back home in Canada, I would possibly have chosen
the Algonquin carbon tripods — well made and they have an
excellent system with darn good solutions like the two rock
solid Jobu Design Black Widow Mk II PRO Gimbal Tripod Head
I use on two Systematic 5 for wildlife.

I say to my students that the most important investment made
is the lens, then, follows the tripods and heads — these are both
lifetime investments.

I hate to lose, misinvest or misplace my money but I happily go
for longterm solutions.
Light is free… capturing it is not!
