Lever vs Twist Lock Manfrotto BeFree Advanced Tripod

4 years 3 months ago #672881 by Mike McKinnon
This tripod if picked up in Aluminum can be picked up with either lever or twist leg locks.  However Carbon fiber is only available with the twist lock.  I like the idea of the lever lock, but why is this not available with the carbon fiber one?

If the levers are a must, just mount them on similar sizes
carbon fibre segments if you can find some replacements.

I haven't use them since an eternity and don't miss them.

I prefer the twist locks myself.  Less to worry about.

I don't like the lever locks, those get caught on things and not as good as twist IMHO.

My Camera Bag:

Canon 7D | 50mm f/1.2 | 17-40mm f/4 | 70-200mm f/2.8 | 320EX | 580EXII

+1 on the twist locks.  Much more reliable and less factors that could fail in the future.

Because levers bite?

CF will be a top requirement for hikers and wildlife
photographers — weight being the first concern.

In my book, levers will get caught in branches and
twigs and that can be annoying for many. One more
point is that twist locks are absolutely silent — this
may be critical in the wild.

Most tripods have twist locks for good reasons.  The only thing I have with a lever is my ball head.

I'm not a lever lock person, twist locks are far more reliable and don't get caught on things.

Nope, never considered the lever locks, only have had the twist locks on my tripods.
