SIRUI AM2-Series AM-284 tripod

I've been looking for a good travel tripod.  Just found this one for over $200 bucks.  The apex is very small compared to others.  But it's only 47" tall.  The price is attractive and I might just chance it.

What do you think of this one?

The height point is critical indeed — I would not go for that height.
Four leg sections is good but the diameters from ø 18.6 ~ 29.4 mm
are quite thin if you ask me.

What about a levelling base?… and eventually a column?
These I cannot say much as I don't know YOUR way to shoot or what.

A tripod is a lifetime investment… don't forget.

Thank you, are there any compact travel tripods that you can recommend?  Ideally something that can get me close to 50-55" height without center column would be great.

The problem is that any travel tripod is a lot of compromises
and I'm not going that way. I have no use for anything lacking
in stability, sustains resonance and force me to not comforta-
ble gymnastic when working.

I own 4 on location series 5 tripods. All have 43mm ∅, 4 sections,
a minimum of 60" high. 2 of them with levelling bases and 2 with
a column — all of the same brand.

I don't hike anymore but when I did, CF did not exist.

Not familiar with this one.   IMO, the problem with these sort of tripods is the whoobelling in the legs when extended.

Legs are too short, I bet that wouldn't be all that stable

I associate shorter with more stable
… as long as the leg diameter is there.

Actually, short is good for stability. The problems come from more leg sections, longer sections, not bracing them far enough apart, and legs that are not thick enough.

You can use weight to improve stability, but at a certain point nothing will help. You have enough wind, you can't stabilize a tripod adequately, AFAIK. If you have ideal conditions, then many tripods will suffice. Although more weight is usually better.

I prefer longer legs, makes it much more stable if you ask me.
