In our latest edition of our Learn & Explore series, we sit down and talk with Ben Gasser, founder of Metal Mouth Prints.
As Ben discusses in the video below, Metal Mouth Prints is a fine art print company that specializes in dye sublimated metal prints.
Metal Mouth Prints got its start back in 2014 and in the years since has become a highly regarded printing company for photographers worldwide.
In fact, as Ben shares, customers rave about Metal Mouth Prints' attention to detail - something that doesn't always happen with competing metal print companies.
As a small, family-owned business, Ben and his family are intimately involved in the daily operation of the company, and judging from the quality of the sample print Ben sent me, that intimate involvement is paying off!
In fact, the sample print I have from Metal Mouth Prints is one of the best I've ever seen. The attention to detail, color accuracy, and build quality are all off the charts.
And as Ben discusses in the video, his company has a new product in development that will, in my opinion, revolutionize the metal print market.
Essentially, this new product allows you to swap out the metal print from the frame.
This means that once you hang the frame on the wall, the frame stays put, and you can change the print within the frame as often as you'd like. This is possible because of Metal Mouth Prints' patented magnetic mounts that are adhered to the frame.
This modular metal print frame system is ingenious, if you ask me. One of the problems with hanging photos on the wall is that you only have so much wall space to do so. This system allows you to change your images as you please with no tools. Just grab the print, pop it off the frame, and mount the new print to the frame with the magnets in a matter of seconds. It doesn't get much easier than that!
On top of that, the metal print can be hung on the wall by itself, if so desired.
In other words, this new kind of framing system offers you loads of utility - far more than a traditional metal print.
What to Look for in a High-Quality Metal Print
As you'll see in our video, Ben offers some interesting insights into what makes a high-quality metal print.
For starters, look for sharpness and detail. As Ben notes, one of the primary misnomers about metal prints is that they aren't sharp.
However, the sharpness of a print depends on many factors, not the least of which is the printer. As I've seen in the sample print Ben sent me, metal prints can be ultra-sharp and detailed.
Another feature to look for in a good metal print is the accuracy of the colors - does the print accurately represent the colors in the original image file?
Construction, of course, is a major factor in setting high-quality metal prints apart from low-quality metal prints. As Ben discusses, looking at the edges of the print will give you a good idea of the print's quality. Look specifically for edges that are extremely sharp or have chipping as indications of poor quality.
There's a lot to learn about metal prints and the methods that Ben and his family are using to innovate in this space. Give our video a watch and learn all about the exciting developments coming from Metal Mouth Prints!
