What inspired you to become a photographer?

Photographers like Ken Duncan and Mark Grey, inspired me to get out in the world and record its beauty

Tell us about your first photo that really validated your interest as a photographer.

Out in the arid regions of South Australia I did a 3 shot HDR blend of the station masters cottage at coward springs, I was so pleased with the result, from my fellow togs. That I felt I could be good enough in this art.

Back when you were just starting out, what was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome that?

impatience, talking myself through it while setting up my gear.

What do you enjoy photographing the most?

I enjoy the adventure the most, getting up early or camping in the bush near a shoot. the alarm goes off no one’s around I have the world to myself it’s a great feeling and deserved for the effort.

What has been your proudest moment as a photographer?

In 2012 my photo was bought and published in the southern crossings2012 Calorama Calendar along with such photographers as mark grey and Christian Fletcher. a huge achievement for me.

Tell us about time in your photographic journey where you failed at something and how did you pivot to overcome this?

I remember on a still and perfect winters day in the Scottish Highlands in 2015 I shot the whole morning in JPEG, I could have slit my wrists lol lol. I got over it :)

We all have weaknesses, what is yours relating to photography?

weddings I just can’t stand the pressure.

Finding time to get out and shoot is another challenge for many. How do you find the time in your busy schedule to get out there behind your camera?

I always find the time for a shoot especially at weekend, it a priority unless the conditions are obviously not going to benefit the effort

Nailing a composite right can be a challenge. What do you think the trick is to mastering composition?

mastering a composition for me is about recce the shoot first and have a good look at what you’re going to be presented with.

There are many photographers starting out, who don't have the money to buy the camera gear they want. What advice can you give to them?

priorities should be Not to buy cheap gear, always better to save up and buy decent Glass filters etc.

How do you feel photography has impacted the way you see the world?

Oh it’s made me so much more aware of what we are doing to our planet, it never ceases to amaze me the amount of plastic crap that’s been discarded by selfish or careless people. Ban Plastic bags bottle and the like NOW

What do you see photographers doing today, that if done differently tomorrow would improve their success?

Don’t just shoot icons, explore and fine new stuff, you never know your new place might become an icon, open your eyes

To get your creative eye focused, where do you draw your inspiration from?

natures, there is no other beauty like it, opening one’s eyes and looking at what’s about you.

What is your best photography related tip?

Scotland 2012 with my new D700 Nikon, the snows fell the light was extraordinary and I managed to just fall on feet time and time again. Wonderful.

What would you like for people take away from your work?

I would hope people who see my photos would imagine they were right there when I took the shots, or could feel the ambiance of the location and love it the way I did.

What are some ‘must have’ items in your camera bag?

I must have my camera and 1 lens, 24-70 mm Nikon for versatility. MY remote shutter release and tripod, cleaning gear, and everything else I can get by without

If you were stuck on a deserted island, what is the ONE photography book you would want to have with you?

The New 35Mm Handbook, it made it very easy for me to understand the basics of photography.

We want you to be in the middle of the conversation.

Do you want to share your story
