What's in Arnie Zann's and Margo Taussig's Camera Bag:

Our philosophy is that the best camera is the one you have in your hand, whether film, DSLR, or SmartPhone. You start with a concept, have the vision to put it together, and most importantly, the passion to bring it out. Currently, we use FujiFilm X-T3, but over the years, we have used many brands, starting out with a Brownie Hawkeye that was used to make photos that stand the test of time today.

Between, there were models that included a Kodak Retina IIc, Leicas, Rollei, Hasselblads, etc. … lens? Probably a wide to mid-range zoom, in the 24mm-70mm range. We use Flash fill sometimes, but with the dynamic range of today’s cameras, there is not the need to flash that once existed.

Aside from the “camera gear, we use laptops (remember, there are two of us), WD or Seagate 5TB external hard drives, Lightroom Classic, batteries and chargers, cards, Singh Ray or B+W ND filters, ROR lens cleaner (never anything else for us), a lens cloth, and our trusty foot zooms, the best lens of all!

For us, it is not so much about the equipment as about the concept, the vision to put it together, and the passion to bring it out.

Margo Taussig Pinkerton, a.k.a. The Barefoot Contessa, got her first camera at age eight and has been photographing and traveling with a passion ever since.

She started out as a location and stock photographer for travel, outdoor, advertising, and corporate clients in the early 80s, has given numerous photo workshops and lectures, and has led many photo adventures. Her work has appeared in a plethora of calendars, coffee-table books, and magazines worldwide, including, among others, GEO, National Geographic Traveler, Vogue, and Caribbean Travel & Life.

Growing up in an artistic family that exposed her to the great museums and painters of the world has given Margo a unique insight into composition and the quality of light. The energy and passion for photography that she brings to the workshops are infectious.

Her husband and partner, Arnold "Arnie" Zann, started his career over 50 years ago photographing for a large Chicago daily newspaper covering civil rights, politics, and other social issues.

Soon thereafter, and while still working for the newspaper, he started working for LIFE and Time and has been published in almost every major magazine in the world, including National Geographic, Paris Match, GEO, Fortune, and others.

He, too, has given many workshops and seminars throughout his long career traveling the world for editorial and Fortune 100 and 500 clients. Arnie's knowledge of the zone system and dramatic lighting brings strength to his photographs. He also has an uncanny eye for what photographs will become effective black and whites.

In addition to their broad range of assignment work, both Margo and Arnie have shot extensively for stock images that have appeared in advertising, corporate, and editorial venues. Their photographs have won numerous awards over the years and are in many private, museum, and library collections. Their passion is making strong, compelling images worldwide.

As Margo always says, "We cannot not do photography."
