Use Your Best image Files

We’ve all seen it. A huge enlargement, usually as an inexpensive poster print, of a photo that we probably would’ve put in our “Do Not Post Process” file cache.
It isn’t quite sharp, either because of focus problems or camera shake. The contrast is an issue, lens flare or over exposure has played a part in that. And the composition is uninteresting. Looking at it, we think back to when we first started to get serious about our own photography and that many pics we thought were so cool wouldn’t even see the light of day now.
Thankfully, it’s only a discount store poster print. Plus, you know that if the picture taker is interested enough in photography to make a physical enlargement, then they will soon learn more about this wonderful art and craft.
Maybe they’ll find us here at PhotographyTalk.com and then they’ll take that wonderful passion and improve their skills. So, be nice, commend them for what IS good and just drop our name. Click the mouse button, we’ll do the rest!
Since metal prints are such an awesome display form, be sure the file we choose to send to the printer is really good. Sharp, well exposed, pleasing or interesting composition, something to be proud of.
Think About Size and Where to Display
We have a great looking, very high resolution image file that we want enlarged, so we’re now thinking about metal print options. Something about a metal print really begs us to consider larger sizes and a prominent space to display it.
It’s the flatness of the image plus the fact that it doesn’t need much of a frame, if framed at all, that makes metal prints stand out over matting and framing an image. With a metal print, almost all of the space of the artwork is your image. You can use metal print options that are flat right to the edge, no frame sides at all.
With the right image, this aspect of metal prints makes quite an impact. Where to hang it and what size can either reinforce or lessen this impact, just depends on your intent.
A very large metal print mixed in with other steps of prints on display will tend to dominate the viewer's attention. So, you’re either going to win for that, or in order not to dominate any group of images, the metal print will be at or near the size of the other works.
If hanging it solo, photographers are sometimes surprised that their big enlargement doesn’t look so big after all when hung on a blank wall or above large furniture like a couch. So, going for a very large print size might be in order.
Not All Metal Prints Are Alike
As the third of the metal print tips in our metal print buyer’s guide, it’s worth paying attention to the fact that not all metal prints are alike. Some printers are simply better than others.
What to look for in a metal print maker is quality materials and workmanship, reasonable prices, excellent customer service, and display options.
Metal Mouth Prints ticks all in the positive column for these considerations. The quality of the end product is of paramount concern when looking at metal print options. Metal Mouth Prints quality is top tier all the way through.
They also have very reasonable prices for metal prints up to 40 x 60 inches (which is 3 ½ by 5 feet!) and all of the standard sizes for enlargements. Custom sizing is also available.
Metal Mouth Prints have two unique display options not offered by many printers, acrylic feet for table top display and the éZi mount system, which allows you to swap out the metal images while leaving the frame attached to the wall.
We’ve been very pleased with all of the metal print options we’ve used from them, both for selling to clients and for display in our own offices. Give them a try.
