About Mpix
Mpix is a U.S.-based lab located in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Initially, Mpix started as a small operation, but over the years it has grown into one of the largest online printers in the United States.
Mpix notes that they employ expert printers that work to ensure each photo is printed with top-notch color. The company also takes pride in its “fast and furious shipping squad” that moves your print out the door within 24 hours.
With a tagline of having a “big heart for storytelling and creation,” Mpix bills itself as a partner for you in telling your favorite stories through beautiful prints.
Mpix Hours
Mpix hours are around-the-clock as they are available for accepting orders, questions, and concerns 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You can reach Mpix using the contact form on their website. There’s also an online help center in case you have questions.
Mpix Products
Mpix products run the gamut from canvas prints to poster prints, framed prints to wood prints, acrylic prints, to, of course, Mpix metal prints. You can see all of the Mpix prints options here.
You can also choose from a variety of wall art, collages, photo books, and a host of photo gifts, like photo mugs, photo blankets, and photo magnets.
Mpix Promo Code
If you’re after an Mpix promo code, look no further than their Mpix coupons page. You’ll find that they often have multiple promotions running, like 25% off your first order.
At the moment, you can take advantage of things like free shipping on orders over $35, 15% off wall art and framing, and 20% off photo books. In fact, Mpix coupons can be found in good quantities year-round.
Mpix Return Policy
The Mpix return policy is quite good. It stipulates that if you don’t like the quality of your order, you will get a reprint free of charge. You just have to contact Mpix within 30 of receiving your item.
Of course, the Mpix return policy also notes that prints will not be redone if the quality issue is out of their control, like the resolution of the original image file being too small.
The Mpix return policy also notes that color corrections are done to prints by an experienced color technician that uses a color-calibrated monitor. Since Mpix has multiple color technicians, there is some variability in how colors are corrected. These variations do not necessarily constitute a free reprint if you are dissatisfied.
Mpix Reviews
Mpix reviews are sort of a mixed bag.
As you can see above, Mpix has a 3.53-star rating on SiteJabber. They get decent remarks overall, except for their return policy, which lags behind.
The Mpix reviews are much better on Facebook, where they get 4.5 out of 5 stars. This detailed review on Tom’s Guide, however, gives the company just 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Mpix Metal Print Review
I ordered an Mpix metal print as part of an upcoming $100 metal print shootout. I submitted the same image with the same text to various printers so I can compare them head-to-head. Learn more about custom canvas prints on our website PhotographyTalk.com.
Part of my purpose was to standardize as much of the process as possible. This included getting a specific-sized print. Unfortunately, Mpix doesn't offer custom sizing, so the process got started on a sour note.
On the shipping front, it took four days to arrive at my door. That’s not bad at all considering it had to be printed and then make it from Kansas to California.
As you can see above, the Mpix metal print has an overall nice look to it, but there is some noticeable softness in the details of the shot. This is not due to the resolution of the image, but is a result of the printing process at Mpix. For this reason, I’d rate the detail and resolution of the print as 8.5 out of 10.
The colors are excellent on this print. Having the color technicians do their thing with the print earns Mpix high marks here - 9.5 out of 10.
A problem I immediately noticed with the print is that there’s a faint line that you can see - an indentation, if you will (as you can see in the image above, it’s really hard to photograph given the reflective nature of the print). From my understanding, this happens sometimes when the metal is cut. It’s just a quality control issue that I feel shouldn’t have been allowed to occur.
On the back, the mounting hardware is pretty simple, but quite effective.
There’s a foam block with a piece of plastic that has three holes in it for mounting. This isn’t the best mounting hardware I’ve ever seen, but it certainly isn’t the worst, either.
Here’s the price breakdown for my 16x24 Mpix metal print:
Print: $97.49 (with a 25% off first-order coupon)
Tax $7.56
Shipping: FREE
Total: $105.05
Overall, this print looks nice, feels nice, and has a good weight to it. It doesn’t feel cheap at all, but it also isn’t the best metal print I’ve ever gotten.
I’ll have more details on this print coming up in the $100 metal print shootout. But for now, this Mpix review should be a nice introduction to Mpix and my experience with Mpix metal prints.
