The Fujifilm X-H2 camera is an awesome tool for photography and videography. With an APS-C 40.2MP sensor and numerous advanced and professional features, it is a mirrorless camera system that can help you unlock a realm of creative possibilities like no other APS-C format has ever done.

A great source for purchasing high-end photography tools like the X-H2 is the online platform MPB. I’ve been using MPB for years to buy great pre-owned cameras and lenses, and I’ve sold or traded in several items myself. MPB is a wonderful way to optimize your budget and get the gear you need.

What makes MPB work for me is that they are owned and run by people who are photographers themselves, so they know what it’s like to buy, sell, trade, and then use high-quality photography gear. It’s nice to do business with a company that understands photographers.

Plus, their policies are superb. They thoroughly inspect every item they sell, ensuring it is high quality and in good working order. The condition is clearly listed for every item. You know exactly what you’re receiving, even what small accessories will come with the camera or lens.

A huge thing for many of us is that MPB offers the peace of mind of a 7-day return/exchange window and a full 6-month warranty on virtually everything they sell. Since you can save money and still get that peace of mind, there’s no reason not to purchase a Fujifilm X-H2 from MPB!

Now let’s talk about five things to love about the Fujifilm X-H2 high-resolution mirrorless APS-C format camera.

Overview of Fujifilm X-H2

We’ll begin our Fujifilm X-H2 review with an overview of the camera specs and features. The Fujifilm X-H2 release date was September 2022, replacing the three-year-old Fujifilm X-H1.

Everything in the Fujifilm X-H2 is an upgrade from the previous camera - better battery life, a higher resolution sensor (with an added 160MB Pixel-Shift Multi-Shot mode), better video, and a bunch of functions preferred by advanced users and professionals.

The body is ergonomic with a large-size handgrip, a top screen for settings readout, and intuitive function and setting controls. Add the VG-XH battery grip to the mix for longer shooting and filming.

Take a look at what photographer and videographer Maarten Heilbron has to say about the awesome capabilities of the ultra-high resolution Fujifilm X-H2 in the video above.

Here are a few highlights of the Fujifilm X-H2 specs:

  • 40.2MP APS-C sensor

Ultra High Resolution for the APS-C Format

The Fujifilm X-H2 has the highest resolution of any APS-C format camera with its 40.2MP sensor. That high resolution is a boon to landscape photographers, advertising photographers, and anyone else desiring ultra-high resolution. It also makes 8K video recording possible.

A special Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode has been added to the Fujifilm X-H2, extending that high resolution even further. Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode records 20 images, moving the sensor slightly between exposures, giving a total DNG RAW image file size of up to 160MB. The capabilities this one feature offers are mind-blowing!

Fujifilm X-H2 IBIS Rocks!

In-body image stabilization in the Fujifilm X-H2 is an outstanding seven full stops with most Fujinon XF-Series lenses. Some lenses will be limited to five stops, though. Whether five or seven stops, that’s a lot of added versatility for still imaging and video.

What’s nice about Fuji’s in-body image stabilization is that it works with any mounted lens. You get the most stops of usability from the newest Fujinon lenses, but it still works with lenses from other brands and even with lenses in other mounts with the proper lens mount adapter.

Since it functions in both still imaging and video capture modes, you can have a lot of usability in varied lighting conditions for handheld video recording. This is a real boon for videographers since it opens up many shot and scene possibilities previously unavailable or difficult to do.

This feature is also a welcome sight for wildlife, sports, wedding, events, and any other type or style of action photography. Coupled with a fast Fujinon-X zoom or prime lens, a wedding photographer will be on cloud nine with all of the performance gains over older cameras. Whatever style is your niche or interest, 5-7 stops of stabilization is great.

Video Capabilities of Fujifilm X-H2

The Fujifilm X-H2 is not designed primarily for video, but it’s not as though Fuji simply added on a video mode either. Fuji calls their Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-H2S hybrid cameras, meaning they work great for either application.

The only thing lacking in any significant way with the Fujifilm X-H2 specs for video mode is a little bit of rolling shutter effect in 8K, 6.2K, and 4K recording. This primarily shows up in faster action or when using complex camera movements. If video is your primary use, the Fujifilm X-H2S will likely be a better option for you.

With that said, just look at all that the Fujifilm X-H2 gives you for video. It records 8K with the full width of the sensor, with no extra crop factor. It has multiple codecs for expanded professional video use and can output 8K video to an external device via the full-size Type A HDMI port.

There is an optional file transfer grip for enhanced capabilities and an external cooling fan available for an extended time using video. In other words, the X-H2 is a very professional and adaptable video camera and an ultra-high resolution still imaging camera truly worthy of Fuji’s “hybrid” label.

Lens Options for Fujifilm X-H2

Fuji has many excellent Fujinon-XF lenses for the Fujifilm X-H2 and other APS-C cameras in their lineup. Many of them are high-speed and pro-style, with weatherproofing and exceptional contrast, sharpness, and freedom from distortion.

Check out some of what’s available on MPB:

Besides the lenses made by Fuji, numerous 3rd party brands are making fine lenses for the Fujifilm X-H2. Tokona, Tamron, Rokinon, and Lens Baby are just a few you can find on MPB.

Additionally, the Fujifilm X-H2 is a mirrorless camera, which means there are adapters made by third parties that allow you to fit virtually any mount lens to this camera. Imagine using classic Nikkor, Leitz, Minolta, Canon, or Zeiss lenses on your camera for video recording or still imaging.

Another nice thought is that this lets you move up to this killer camera even if you already have a bunch of other lenses. You’ll still want the Fujinon lenses to take advantage of all of the camera features, but it’s nice to know you can ease into it.

Ruggedness and Pro Features

The Fujifilm X-H2 and the sister camera X-H2S are both top-of-the-line professional cameras. As such, they have the features advanced and professional photographers need and want. They are rugged, environmentally sealed, and full of extra features and functions.

For instance, you can set auto bracketing of exposures for HDR with up to 7 exposures, up to 2 stops apart. Shutter speeds top out at 1/180,000 of a second with the electronic shutter. Yes, you read that number right - 15fps shutter cycling is impressive, and it goes up to 20fps if you accept a small crop factor.

You’ll need to read the instruction manual about numerous other features. I also like the larger-than-usual APS-C camera's handgrip on the body. It makes extended usage more comfortable. Finally, the controls are intuitive and quick to operate.

Final Thoughts Fujifilm X-H2

The Fujifilm X-H2 is a beast of a camera, features and capability-wise. It is more than enough to keep up with the demands of most professionals using the APS-C format for digital photography. Its 40.2MP sensor resolution is a major part of its existence, but it has plenty to offer for all sorts of photography and videography use.

Find it at a reduced price on the online platform MPB. Currently, some examples are priced from $1649 for a Good condition camera up to $1949 for one that is Like New. I know you will be pleased with your Fujifilm X-H2 hybrid camera!
