Fabian Oefner is unlike any photographer you've ever met because he loves taking photos of car parts-every, single car part.
It's how he makes incredible shots like these ones.
Oefner, who works with MAD Gallery, loves explosions and he loves to photograph them, no matter how grueling and time consuming they may be.
In Oefner's latest project, "Disintegrating X," he decided to "explode" a 1972 Lamborghini Miura Super Veloce. This was the first time he photographed this type of explosion on anything other than scale models.
For those of you who aren't car people, this Lamborghini is a nearly $2 million car. It's safe to say, a lot of planning went into this endeavor.
"I did this in July, so it was 44 degrees celcius in the workshop. I was sweating, and it smelled like gasoline in the air," Oefner said.
"It's way more tangible when you do it with the real thing. Now, when I look at the photograph, all the smells and the ambiance of the workshop come back."
The project took two years and 2,500 photographs.
"I worked on the scale models in my studio, which is very quiet, and creating was almost a soothing process," Oefner said. "With the real car it got a lot more complicated."
The car was loaned to Oefner from a friend while it was in a shop getting refurbished. Here is a photo that shows just how many details went into the shoot.
