Inspiration is a strange lady and a lot of photographers find themselves waiting for her with nostalgia every now and then. Creative ruts are normal in all arts, but it's up to every artist to decide how he or she deals with them.

There are multiple ways of doing that, one of the most popular being the photo project. It will keep you on track regardless of creative swings and it will drive you forward to complete it. I recommend all photographers do at least one project in their careers, but if you don't have the means to start one, there are other ways to get out of the rut or to simply expand your portfolio.
There are countless experiments you can try and that's one of the cool things about photography. If you feel like you need to try something new, why not switch to a Polaroid camera for a change? Or why don't you try taking a few spectacular levitation shots? Sure, they're not something new or unseen before, but that shouldn't stop you. Originality lies not just in the idea, but also in the execution.
