Italy has a lot to offer in terms of photography. The history, the culture and the landscapes all blend into a unique mix that attracts many to this beautiful land. Tuscany in particular is one of the most beautiful and often-visited parts of Italy. Make no mistake, though; although Tuscany offers incredible bueaty, you still need a decent skill set to capture that beauty in photographs. Here are three mistakes you don't want to make on your next visit to Tuscany.

1. Not knowing what to visit

Every trip, particularly those on different continents, requires careful planning and knowledge of the places you are about to visit. Even if you do plan ahead, chances are you're going to miss some of the main attractions of the area. Tuscany offers tremendous photo opportunities, from the rural life between Vagliagli and Radda-in-Chianti to the amazing Firenze, known all over the world for its influence in the fine arts. Making sure you know where to go and what to capture is essential. That's why we recommend Raymond Gehman's workshop in Tuscany. With his guidance, you'll photograph everything Tuscany has to offer, along with daily photography instruction and critique.

2. Shooting in the wrong light

Even with all its beauty, Tuscany will look far from its best if you don't take advantage of the right lighting conditions. It is a place that looks best in soft light, so if you go on your own, schedule your shooting times for early morning and dusk. That's easier as part of a group like Raymond's; you'll be at the shooting locations at exactly the right times.

3. Focusing on just one genre

Let's say you love to shoot landscapes. Tuscany will be very generous with you, but why stop there? Why focus on just one type of photography when there is so much more to explore? For example, there's the 1000-year-old town of Siena with its wonderful, medieval architecture. How about the famous wineries and the village life? Don't overlook the potential for incredible photographs because you're focused on one type of photography.

With all that Tuscany has to offer, try to avoid these 3 common mistakes while you're there, to appreciate the full photographic experience.
