Located in the island of Honshu, Japan, Mount Fuji is the tallest in the country at 3,776,24m (12,389ft). It's one of the most attractive destinations for photographers, hikers and nature lovers and a symbol of Japan. It's about 60 miles away from Tokyo and on clear days, especially in winter, you can see it from the capital. It used to be an active volcano that last erupted in 1707 and it has a very symmetrical cone, making it instantly recognizable.
But one question remains. Is it really a point of interest for photographers or is it just another regular tourist attraction? Besides the photos in this article, one important thing should be mentioned. The angle from where you shoot Mount Fuji is very important.
Some local photographers suggest photographing from Zaimokuza Beach, a horseshoe-like shoreline. If you chose this position, you'll also have Enoshima Island in the foreground, as well as sailboats and surfers.
Hakone is another place you can try. It's a resort town located on the edge of Mount Fuji and it's a favorite among Tokyoites.
If you plan your visit in late April, we suggest the Fuji Motosuko Resort in Fujikawaguchiko. There's an annual festival there celebrating the blossoming of some 80,000 mountain phlox flowers that fill 6 acres with some of the prettiest colors you've ever seen.
So the answer the question of whether or not Mount Fuji can be considered a serious photographer's destination, we say absolutely. Some viewing points look better than others, but overall, Mount Fuji looks spectacular no matter how you look at it.
