There are still a few places left on the planet that are truly wild, where animals can be photographed in their natural, unaltered surroundings. But perhaps there's no place as unique as the Pantanal. It is the world's largest wetland area, sprawling over an estimated area estimated between 54,000 and 75,000 square miles. Most of it is located in Brazil, but it also extends into portions of Bolivia and Paraguay. About 80% of the Pantanal is submerged during the rainy season, making this a unique habitat for an astonishing diversity of birds, mammals, insects and fish, including giant anteaters, caiman, capybaras, and howler monkeys. It has been declared a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The Pantanal has elements from the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforests, the Brazilian Savannah and the Paraguayan Chaco. The name itself comes from the Portuguese word pântano, which means wetland, swamp or marsh.

It is indeed one of the most beautiful places in the world and if you're a wildlife lover, this could be the ideal next destination. But travelling to such a remote land should only be done under the right guidance. The Pantanal Wildlife tour with the acclaimed South American photographer Ossian Lindholm is the perfect opportunity. The tour will take you across the North and South Pantanal, providing you with close up views of the fascinating regional fauna.
