The camera market is constantly changing and as newer models replace older ones, evolution brings us more creative power than ever. Some cameras are only designed to last 1-2 years on the market, while others, particularly high end models are made to last for five years or more, despite being replaced at some point. Last year definitely saw some cool new entries and from what we’re seeing, some of these cameras will be high on the priority list for many photographers in 2016. Here are six of our favorites.

1. Canon 5Ds

With its class-leading 50.6 MP sensor, it’s clear the 5Ds is going to be around for some time. If you think about the good old 5D MKIII that’s been rocking it for four years, it’s easy to see a bright future for this pro body that can rub shoulders with medium format cameras. Despite the large resolution that recommends it for commercial and studio photography, the 5Ds has a fast 61 point AF-system that allows it to perform well with fast moving subjects.

2. Sony A7R II

Some say it’s the best full frame camera available today. We don’t want to put a finger on anything, but it’s definitely close. The A7R II was built with no compromise in mind. The newly developed Exmor R sensor is the first back-illuminated 35mm sensor and that helps it achieve incredibly low light performance, similar if not better than that of the legendary A7S.

3. Nikon D750

Arguably the most versatile DSLR in recent years, the D750 is a wedding/action photographer’s dream and it’s also a powerful tool for video. The excellent image quality, the build quality and ergonomics, the superb AF system and the impressive dynamic range are just some of the hot features that makes us believe will be seeing a lot of this camera in the following years.

It was a game changer when it came out thanks to its native 4k capabilities and it still is a powerful camera for filmmaking. It’s been used by everyone from aspiring indie filmmakers to professionals working on international TV shows.
